Paradise End- Elizabeth Laird

Hi,
I am slightly exhausted after reading this book, but not for the reason that you might think. It is a fast paced, roller coaster ride of a book, yet there are no guns, no spies and no James Bond :-).
It is the story of Carly, an irritated girl and an aspiring tap dancer extraordinaire who feels that no one understands her. Having lived in a three bedroomed semi all o her life, and gazed at the gates of Paradise End since before she could walk, until one day, she meets Tia, the mysterious yet lonely heiress of Paradise End.
The following story is a turn of events that are less all action and more emotion. I, for one, could emphasis with Carly, and I am sure that many other girls could too.
When tragedy strikes, and Tia has to leave, can they still be best friends?
I loved this book. Suitable for ages about 9+, it is brilliantly written in the first person and the climatic scene is un-put-down-able.
I give it a rating of 4.75 out of 5, losing 0.3 points for the fact that it was too short!
Give it a try! Look it up on google, or on the Macmillan children's books website.
An excellent tale from an excellent author. Brilliant!
Happy reading,
